WEEK 0: THREE IMAGES

A: YOUR BEST PIECE OF WORK OF CREATIVE WORK BEFORE COMING TO THIS COURSE, THINK LATERALLY IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE 'CONVENTIONAL ART OR DESIGN WORK'.

This is one of my piece of works I did in Foundation Studies 2017 in UNSW. The project’s brief is to design a free structure or an installation which is suitable to be shown for the event, Sculpture by the Sea. It is annual outdoor exhibition held on the Bondi Beach to Tamarama Beach coastal walk. ‘Dial’ is a sculpture of sundial inspired by the pattern of waves and the sun. Sundial is the oldest device that have been used to measure time, it shows the combination of science and design to create a sundial. The concept is to show the relationship between sunlight and shadow, which can indicate the passing of time.

B: AN IMAGE OF A GREAT PIECE OF A GREAT PIECE OF ARCHITECTURE

I have chosen the Green Heart , Marina One Singapore as a great piece of architecture. It is designed by Ingenhoven architects. It is inspired by the Asian rice paddy terraces. The green centre is surrounded by four towers, with its multi-story three-dimensional gardens, thus reflects the diversity of tropical flora and creates a new habitat. The different types of plants is inspired by the natural climate changes at the different vertical levels of a rainforest, the landscape architecture imitates a green valley with its variations in climate as stated by its level. Besides, the geometry of the buildings interact with the garden facilitates natural ventilation thus generates a suitability microclimate, which can also improve the human quality of life.

C: AN ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH OF SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL

I have chosen The Long Jetty as a photograph of something beautiful. It is located at suburb of the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia. Many years ago, ferries used to bring people from Wyong for holidays and prawning. The jetties were that long because the water had to be deep enough for the ferries to reach. Nowadays, the longest jetty is popular with photographers. The reason I have chosen this photograph is that it seems the jetty is long enough to cross over the sea to another island. Lastly, the simple combination of jetty, sea and sky create a wonderful landscape.
